Overview

Why go to Samoa

Samoa is two main islands, Upolu and Savai’i, and a way of life called fa’a Samoa that shapes everything. Villages own the beaches, families run the beach fales, and Sunday is for church and rest. The To Sua ocean trench is the postcard, a swimming hole you descend into by ladder. Lalomanu beach is the other.

It’s not luxury in the Bora Bora sense, though there are good hotels. It’s authenticity, warmth and empty beaches. A consultant’s trip idea we send often is the Samoan Explorer, both islands in ten days.

Highlights

  • Swimming in the To Sua ocean trench
  • Lalomanu beach at dawn
  • The Alofaaga blowholes on Savai'i
  • A night in a beach fale
  • Papaseea sliding rocks
  • Sunday to'onai lunch with a village family
